We have total control of the target towing and electronic warfare businesses that we provide to the customers. These are with regards to the provision, the acquisition and the maintenance/repair of EW jamming equipment such as A-110/100, Astor III, DARTS, ALE-43 and UST-104 for the LR-35A aircraft. Through the support of our technology partner and OEMs, My-konsult from Sweden and Skyline Aviation from the Netherlands, we are able to get the technical support, training and the right modern EW/TT technologies for the Military and Civil Defence. At the same time, we have Air Affairs in Australia and Meggitt Defence Systems in United Kingdom to support us in the target acquisition and TT special equipment. Beside that, the company also has proposed production of the equipments locally with approved licences. Above all, our company sets the pace for TT/EW operational and engineering controls to ensure customer requirements are met. We carefully pay attention to our customer’s feedback in order to continuously enhance our services and capabilities.
The aircraft that we use is Learjet 35A (LR 35A)
- LR - 35A
LR-35A equipped with TT/EW equipment and trained crew are readily available to support our customers under Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), ie. Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Roya Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Royal Malaysian Army (RMA). The LR-35A is a business jet-modified, and converted into a TT/EW aircraft. The aircraft has the speed of a fighter aircraft, crew of 3-4 and with tasking endurance of 3.5 hours. The aircraft is operated from Subang Airport. By having the TT/EW, LR-35A at any one time it will give the company an added flexibility in providing an effective services to customers especially in supporting the exercises which involve large numbers of fighter aircraft. Whilst primarily we would provide our customers with the LR-35A as the platform for Tactical PI, Silent target for the Practice Intercept (PI) training mission and Target Towing and EW training. In order to perform the role effectively, the LR-35A would be employed as the stand-off, escort jamming and the EW interdictions and Electronic Attacks as part of the of the EW mission packages.
In many countries, the traditional analogue EW jammer equipment is being modified or replaced by digital EW systems. Digital systems consumes less power, covers wider spectrum of modes, technique and parameters which are selectable in the aircraft to give greater output and accuracy as compared to the analogue system. As a result, the system only requires two outboard pylons for pods containing antennas and TWTs and lesser electrical power to run all onboard and podded EW systems. The company is fortunate to have OEMs such as My-Konsult from Sweden and Skyline Aviation from the Netherlands, to equip our LR-35 with A110/A100, (ALQ-503) ECM/ESM pods and the new fully digital on-board Astor lll using ALQ-167 pods to carry only antennas and TWT’s. Whilst Astor III generators are cabin mounted with 1 - 2 x ALQ-167 pods or a combination of A110/A100 and ALQ 167 pods are mounted on the aircraft port and starboard wings.
Another remarkable capability of our EW system is that it has the 360 degrees H-I/J band jamming coverage. With A110/A100 EW pods and cabin mounted Astor III, the LR-35A aircraft will have the flexibility of maneuvering within the EW tactical environment in order to provide an effective jamming services in all directions, not just forward and rear jamming as previously been provided to the RMAF fighters and RMN ships. We are glad to mention that the RMAF fighters with the frequency agility radar such as the F/A-18D would be able to see effects of radar jamming which was not possible before.
Astor III has been delivered and more are manufactured for the Royal Swedish Armed Forces and for training of the International Nordic Battle Group. A110/A100 is effectively used against Swedish JAS-39, Dutch F-16 MLU, Swiss and Canadian F/A-18 plus during yearly Exercise Maple Flag and at the NATO exercise Elite.
TARGET TOWING EQUIPMENT AND TARGETS
Our target tow equipment comprises of MTR-101 Target Reeling Machines, Miss Distance Indicator and Mini-Marque AS204 Scoring Station. The TT equipment and the targets that we offer are commonly used world-wide and are within the customer’s specifications. With the support of our OEM, Air Affairs, Australia and other manufacturers we are assured of the continuous logistical and technical supports of the TT equipment and targets. At the same time we are free to purchase targets that are suitable for the customers in the open markets or any targets that approved to be carried by LR 35A aircraft.
Besides being able to provide the standard Air to Air Gunnery and Missile Firings, the LR-35A has the capability to provide both the combination of EW and TT which are practiced in several NATO countries in Europe. Similarly, the aircraft could be employed in the air to air missile firing for both radar missiles (R-27 and AIM-7 Sparrow) and IR missiles (R-73 and AIM-9). Suitable Radar and IR targets could either be air towed (TLX, TVR or DO-SK 6) or air released (GT-400 glide) targets. If there is a requirement from the customer, we are able to provide the simultaneous dual target tow of hard and/or sleeve targets as being practiced by countries using LR-35 A and MTR 101 to provide a wider scope of tactical employment of the customers firing training.
AERIAL TARGET DRONES
We also cater for the provision of two types of aerial target drones ie, Banshee and Phoenix Jet. These aerial targets are supplied by our OEMs, Meggitt Defense Systems, United Kingdom and by Air Affairs Plc, Australia.
The Banshee target system is operated worldwide to provide shooting training for wide range of gunnery and missiles system. It has the endurance of 90 minutes and is capable of flying to a distance of 100 km which meet the customer’s specifications. The system has a proven good track record with the Malaysian Army. Banshee system has full flight telemetry, GPS tracking and Navigation system which enable us to programme the target to places required by the customer.
Banshee drone is also equipped with several enhancements such as MDI target scoring system. It can carries smoke, flares, IR and luneburg lenses that would meet wide range of GBAD missile training such as Anza Mk 11, Jernas , Igla and Oerlikon gunnery.
- PHOENIX JET
